So I can know what to pester my family members about for Christmas.

Ideally something that is still comfortable for long periods of time.

Any model in specific? I'm currently browsing their site.

I just use a pair of their running shoes, but I do believe they have a driving section. I'd probably start there.

Vans SK8-Hi. Good ankle support and good grip on the sole. My pair is grey and red to match the quattro. You can fully customize a pair on their site as well.

I actually want that now. Would look great with some sort of steampunk outfit.

I have a pair of drift cat (3's I think) The don't hold up too well.

They're cheap. Meant for use in snow.

I've never had a chance to try them, but I've heard Chuck Taylors are nice. I also like Asics Onitsuka Tigers.

You can customize a pair on their website for a little more scratch. I have a red and grey pair that match the quattro perfectly.

I've been addicted to Puma's driving shoes for years, Speed Cat, Drift Cat, but I've als found Reebok and other brands that make good footwear for a little three-pedal dancin'.

Kinja'd!!!

Look for the extended heel rubber like in this picture, combine that with a thin sole and you are golden for driving shoes.

Puma. I wear them everyday. I don't remember the exact model but its like Dreamcat or something. It was like $90.

Pretty much. If I'm not wearing my Red Wings, I wear flip flops, and fuck that noise while driving. I throw them damn things in the back seat and find that driving barefoot is the best thing since sliced bread.

Leather soled sew-em-yourself moccasins. I made a pair once for someone, and they used a really nice material.

Piloti's, the company should be back next month. I love their stuff, I've had these two:

But until then I will recommend, Onitsuka Tigers. Pretty darn durable and thin. I've also had 2 pairs of them as well:

Start with Speed Cats. Basic shoes with subdued styling. The are nice for driving, but you don't want to use them for everyday shoes as they don't offer much walking support.

I had a pair of Puma Drift Cats but I don't really like the uber narrow driving shoes like that for heel-toeing in a street car. I have big feet and it's tough to contort myself into a traditional heel-toe. Instead I do more like, ball of foot on the gas, sorta kinda in the direction of the heel on the gas, so a bit wider of a shoe works better for me.

I've had good luck driving with Vans, Chucks, and Sperry Top-Siders. Basically anything that's more of an old-school sneaker with a somewhat thin, flexible sole. Big thick soled cushiony sneakers give you less feel on the pedals.

Otherwise for modern shoes, the Nike Hyperdunk Low, Kobe 8, and KD 6 are all pretty good, particularly the Kobe 8s. Also any Nike Free shoe (I have some Free Run 2s that are great for driving).

I've been looking at some Vans SK8 Hi's that were recommended here. I really like the look of those and they aren't too pricey.

I don't like high tops for driving. I find on long trips, with my ankles locked in, my legs get more fatigued than if I'm wearing low tops and can move my ankles around.

I have multiple pairs of Vans, and different models have different cushioning in them. There's the regular old Vans sole, but there's also models that have better cushion with higher tech materials inside. So I would go with any of the models listed on this page under Cushioning.

I routinely wear a pair of hi top Globe's so it doesn't bother me at all.

I haven't bought Van's in a long time, maybe six or seven years.

Now if you're looking for something a little more dressy there's Born Kilbury

Kinja'd!!!

, Clarks Mansell

Kinja'd!!!

, or Riekers-Antistress Garrit 60

Kinja'd!!!

. For a tennis shoe style my all time favorite is Shane &Shawn Detny Canvas, but they're no longer made. On the cheap, you can find driving shoes from sketchers - they're not nearly as light, the build quality is fair, but in a pinch for a one time use (especially in bad weather), they'll do.

If you (like me) suffer of the syndrome of clown foot (long foot, just kidding) buy an all star and you won't regret, the more common model, because finding a driving shoes in US size 13 - xx is impossible

I have these beat to hell and back Nike Air Edge T9s that have been worn in a way that gives a great feedback and flexibility while still having some support in it. Probably not what you are looking for but it works well enough for me. These things have climbed mountains, been dragged around, singed and crushed. While it has signs of wear on the sides near the heel after 2 years they are still going strong. Couldn't ask for more from a $60 purchase.
